BAS Cricket Match

The BAS cricket match was played at the Ceylon Cricket Club, which is next door to the Indian Cricket Association on Balestier Road. The match started at 8 am with a total of 20 players.

The two teams had a good mix of younger and more mature players, the captain of Team 1 was Dhrubajyoti and Swarup captained Team 2. The two captains agreed to set the match to 20 overs a side. Team 1 comprised of Dhrubajyoti, Korak, Somesh, Soumya, Subhamoy, Biswajit, Nikhilesh, Avik, Mithil and Shantanu, while Team 2 comprised of Swarup, Siddhartha, Debojit, Saikat, Arindam, Rishav, Subha, Aloke, Arnab and Amitava. Team 1 opened with Dhrubajyoti and Korak, Dhrubajyoti topscored for Team 1 with 26 valuable runs. The other members of the team made significant contributions with Nikhilesh adding 14 quick runs at the end. Team 1 ended their innings with a total of 114 for 7 wickets. Among the bowlers, Siddhartha snapped 2 wickets, while Amitava, Arindam, Saikat and Swarup grabbed one wicket each. At the beginning of the 2nd innings,

Team 2 lost some quick wickets, but useful contributions from Aloke (11) and Siddhartha who topscored (23) steadied the ship in the middle order. The departure of Sidhhartha left Team 2 at 70 for 6 wickets in 12 overs, but the last few batsmen shepherded Team 2 to victory comfortably (116 for 6 wickets) with 4.3 overs to spare. Among the bowlers, Nikhilesh snapped 2 wickets and Biswajit, Mithil and Subhamoy did a steady job with the ball for Team 1. Nikhilesh was awarded the Man-of-the-match award for his performance with bat and ball. The prizes were distributed at the end of the cricket match during the Holi lunch.

Sit-and-draw competition

The sit-and-draw competition was held as usual for 3 age groups: below 5, above 5 years to below 9 years, and

above 9 years to below 12 years. There were 6 entries in the category below 5 years, 14 entries in the category from 5 years to 9 years and 5 entries in the category between 9 years to 12 years.

The theme for the below 5 year age group was not pre-decided, children between 5 and 9 years were asked to draw on the theme of children playing in a playground, while children between 9 to 12 years were asked to draw a scenery from nature. The children used their imagination very well to come up with a very nice exhibition of their talent.

Holi and Lunch

A total of 125 members participated in the Holi lunch programme, amid festivities and with their faces colourfully adorned.
